Walking out of the house in a clean pair of boxer briefs and jeans, we hop into my truck to go to Lillian’s place and grab her things. When I pull out of my driveway, I make a left down a paved road with forest trees on either side of it.

“It’s like you live in the middle of nowhere,” Lillian says more to herself than to me as she stares out the window.

Most of the property is covered in trees and if not for the roads that were paved, you wouldn’t know there are more houses on the land that we all share. “We like our privacy and enjoy the forest.”

She looks at me curiously, so I continue.

“My brother Jackson who is younger than me, and my cousins Remington, Hudson, and Weston, and I moved to Berkeley Springs just over a year ago. We bought this land together and built our homes on the property to get away from the town and day to day life that comes with it.”

“Like a commune?” She asks and then bursts into giggles.

I roll my eyes. “No, you brat, not like a commune.”

Lillian sticks her tongue out at me. When I arch my brow, daring her, she blushes and sticks her tongue back in her mouth. Oh, she’s going to be so much fun and fit in perfectly with our pack. “The five of us are close, like best friends. We made the decision together to leave home and find what we were looking for.”

“What are you all looking for?” She asks curiously.

I stop at the gate and turn to face Lillian with my arm stretched across the back of her seat. I pull a piece of her long brown hair between my fingers and stare into her hazel eyes. “Our future.”

“Have you found it?” She asks in a whisper, all humor gone from her beautiful face.

“I have, but they’re still looking. After the last week, I’m convinced we are where we’re supposed to be and they’ll be finding their destiny soon enough.”

Her eyes light up and I can’t help but lean in and steal a kiss from her lush lips. I’m going to spend years learning her taste and the feel of her mouth against mine. The more I kiss her the harder it is to pull away. Our bond is getting stronger and the fear of her leaving me when she finds out the truth lessens some.

When we arrive at Lillian’s apartment my heart aches knowing she’s had to live in the rough part of town, on her own, for the past few years. Her apartment is in a rundown complex that needs a lot of repairs. I’ve lived a long time and seen a lot of things, so I’m not the asshole who is going to judge a book by its cover because obviously she lives here and is amazing, but the other people who live here are not the kind of people I want near my mate.
